animation

Different techniques in animation.

Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and change by means of the rapid display of a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. The illusion as in motion pictures in general is thought to rely on the phi phenomenon. Animator are artists who specialise in the creation of animation. Animators can be recorded with either analogue media, a flip book, motion picture film, video tape, digital media, including formats with animated GIF, flash animation and digital video. To display animation, a digital camera, computer, or projector are used along with new technologies that are produced.

Persistance of vision.

Persistance of vision is were your brain is being tricked as it believes it is watching a video when in fact you are watching a series of still images that have been taken after each other so when you play all the pictures after each other so it is presented as a video. Here is an example of persistence of vision. In this video a man has a thaumotrope and on each side is a slightly different picture of a man of a bicycle so when he spins the thaumotrope its tricks your brain into thinking you are watching the man ride the bicycle as each picture that there is in the thaumotrope is ever so sightly different. So if it was turned less than 7 seconds it would appear as still images.

Zoetrope

In this video the woman is showing us a zoetrope. a zoetrope is a drum that has a series of slightly different pictures. then the drum is spinned and you can watch the pictures as they turn look like the images are moving.

Cell animation.

here is a short video of one of Disney's most iconic movies. Snow White and the seven dwarfs. This is one of Disney's most iconic movies because is it one of the first long movies that Disney made with cell animation and one of the first cell animations that was made in colour. I chose this clip from the Disney classic Snow White because I think that this scene shows how far Disney had came as in this scene it flows and it shows how talented Disney actually is.

Stop motion pixilation

Pixilation is a stop motion technique where live actors are used as a frame-by-frame subject in an animation film, by repeatedly posing while one or more frame is taken and changing pose slightly before the next frame or frames. The technique is often used as a way to blend live actors with animated ones in a movie, such as in the secret adventures of tom thumb by the bolex brothers.

Cut out animation.

Cutout animation is a technique for producing stop-motion animation by using flat characters, props and backgrounds cut from materials such as paper, card, stiff fabric or even photographs. The world's earliest know animated feature film were cut-out animations and is the worlds earliest surviving animated feature.
